of Telecom (DoT) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) are Government of India
Departments under the aegis of Ministry of Communications.
Department
of Telecom (DoT)
has its
role in policy making, licensing and coordination matters relating to
telegraphs, telephones, wireless, data, fascimile and telematic services and
other like forms of communications. In addition, DoT is responsible for
frequency management in the field of radio communication in close coordination
with international bodies. It also enforces wireless regulatory measures for
wireless transmission by users in the country.
Bharat
Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL)
is the
premier telecom service provider of India. BSNL has its presence throughout
the length and breadth of India. The main functions of BSNL include planning,
engineering, installation, maintenance, management and operation of
voice and non-voice telecommunications services all over the country.
Punjab Telecom Circle is a field unit
of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited
Punjab
Telecom Circle was formed in January 1987. It covers the entire state of Punjab,
Union Territory of Chandigarh and Panchkula town of Haryana having an area of
about 50,362 Sq kms and serving a population of 2.5 Crores(approx.). The
Circle is committed to provide latest in telecommunications technology and the
best of the services to its esteemed customers.
1.1
Organisational Set up :
Punjab
Telecom Circle is headed by the
Chief
General Manager
with
head quarters at Chandigarh. Principal General Manager (Operations), General Manager (Operations), General Manager
(Development), General Manager (TR), General Manager (Mktg & Coml)), General
Manager (Finance), General Manager (Revenue),& Director (Vigilance) assist
Chief General Manager at the Circle Headquarter.
1.2
Formation :
The circle is divided into 11 Secondary Switching Areas (SSAs). Ten out of 11
SSAs are headed by General Managers while Chandigarh SSA is headed by
Principal General Manager assisted by one General Manager.

Chandigarh
: The
City Beautiful is the capital of Punjab & Haryana States. Rock Garden, Rose
Garden & Sukhna Lake are worth seeing places.
Amritsar
: famous
for Golden Temple, Durgiana Mandir & Jalianwala Bagh. The international
border with Pakistan at Wagah is just 25 Kms away.
Ludhiana
: the
largest city of Punjab and is famous for hosiery products which are exported to
all over the world.
Fatehgarh
Sahib :
The
three day Annual Shaheedi Jor Mela to pay homage to Guru Gobind Singh's two
younger sons who were cremated at Fatehgarh Sahib is held in the fourth week of
December every year.
Anandpur
Sahib :
Birthplace
of Khalsa. The tenth Sikh Guru laid the foundation of Khalsa Panth on the
Baisakhi day in 1699. Tercentenary celebrations of Khalsa were celebrated during
March-April, 1999.
Bhakhra
Dam :
The
highest dam on the mighty Sutlej river with the largest reservoir in the world.
